Director, Patent Development - Silicon Valley, CA

Our client, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, seeks to hire a Director of Patent Development to be responsible for the overall direction and development of the company’s patent portfolio on a worldwide basis.  The successful candidate will report to the VP of Intellectual Property and will lead a team of patent attorneys and paralegals in managing the company’s worldwide patent filings and prosecution. Candidates must have 12+ years of experience in the patent field and be admitted to a state bar and USPTO.  In house experience managing a large patent portfolio in the information technology industry is strongly preferred. Significant hands-on patent prosecution experience, plus some patent litigation and licensing experience is required. A law degree and undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or computer science is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Overall direction of the company’s patent portfolio including development and

implementation of patent portfolio strategies for technologies across the company.

• Selection, supervision, and quality control of outside prosecution counsel.

• Responsibility for invention review and disclosure process, including Patent

Committees.

• Direction and control of portfolio operations including annuity/maintenance fee

payment, on-line patent management tools and work flow processes.

• Evangelization of patent program across company.

• Development and implementation of international filing strategy.

• May also include support for patent litigation, M&A IP due diligence, licensing,

patent purchasing, and counseling.
