Senior Director of Patent and IP Development

The Senior Director of Patent and IP Development will report to the General Counsel and be a key member of the Senior Management Team with full responsibilities for Patent and IP Development activities across the company. This position will be responsible for managing the Company’s intellectual property portfolio and developing and implementing an overall IP strategy for the company. On a day-to-day basis the executive will work closely with various departments with the aim to advance the Company’s long-term business objectives while ensuring maximum protection of its legal rights and interests.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the formation and implementation of policies, procedures/guidelines related to developing and implementing an IP strategy
  • Lifecycle management of the Company’s IP Portfolio for specific company programs, including the development and implementation of patent strategy, patent prosecution and maintenance
  • Manage the Patent department attorneys, support staff and outside counsel
  • Review , assess and analyze competitor patents and provide defensive and offensive IP strategies
  • Provide advice on Company product and technology development in light of IP landscape
  • Provide legal counsel regarding infringement and validity issues, and patentability of new products and technologies
  • Work with the Litigation team to enforce the Company’s IP
  • Assist the Licensing team to develop a Licensing strategy
  • Interface with Engineering Executives ,Managers and other inventors
  • Perform IP due diligence for acquisition and merger candidate companies
  • Keeping up to date and knowledgeable concerning third party IP and Industry IP trends

Qualifications: 

  • Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.); with an engineering background and registered to practice with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Fifteen or more years related experience in the law department or law firm with at least five years of management experience in patent prosecution
  • Significant experience in intellectual property of technology, preferably in the semiconductor industry
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to work independently while interacting with and advising employees at all levels in the organization
